Deborah: “Determining the exact origins of this hairstyle is challenging, as it has been documented in diverse cultures, including the Fula Tribe in Western Africa, Ancient Egypt, and various Native American Tribes. However, we have certainly noticed an increase in requests for this style at our salon since around 2018.”
Tips for maintaining boho braids and avoiding tangles
“We always recommend not keeping any protective style in for more than 8 weeks to ensure the health of your hair. To extend the lifespan of your boho braids, make sure to wrap them up or braid them loosely before bedtime to minimize friction that can cause tangling. Once a week, dampen the braids and apply a leave-in conditioner or oil, then gently comb through with a wide-tooth comb to separate the strands and allow them to air dry.”
